Command & Conquer (C&C), originally created by Westwood Studios, is a real-time strategy (RTS) video game series. Their first game was one of the first in the RTS genre, based on the popular strategy game Dune.
In contrast to digitally in-game rendered cutscenes, this involves full-motion video cutscenes with an entire cast to advance the plot. In 1998, Electronic Arts took over Westwood Studios, which closed down in 2003.
EA Los Angeles absorbed the studio and some of its members, which intensified the series’ growth. We’ve looked a little closer at what the hype around Command and Conquer is all about, and those details are next.
Command and Conquer
Except for the first-person shooter Command & Conquer: Renegade, the Command & Conquer series is made up of real-time strategy games. The concurrent campaigns of numerous opposing factions against one core plot are a hallmark of the series.
Multiplayer game options, via LAN and modem connection, were also provided by games in the series. Online play, as well as “skirmish” matches in which players can face AI opponents, have also been featured by all games in the series.

The raw materials themselves need storage space in the shape of refineries and, in the event of excess, “storage silo” structures in games released before Red Alert 2 and also Command & Conquer 3.
The ability to play multiplayer games against other players is included in any Command & Conquer game. When the series launched, two CD copies of the game were included in each box of Command & Conquer.
That made multiplayer gaming possible with a single purchase of the game. Westwood Studios promoted this with the tagline, “A second copy, so you and your friend can destroy each other.”
This led to Command & Conquer becoming the first to feature competitive online play in the RTS game genre. This is considered to be the most important external factor in Command & Conquer’s success.
With over 30 million Command & Conquer games sold since 2009, the Command & Conquer series has been commercially successful. Games in the series consistently rank high on game review aggregator websites.
The long history of Command & Conquer resulted in Guinness World Records awarding the series six world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008.
